Marla Ahlgrim Offers Updates On CDC COVID Guidance

Marla Ahlgrimm

The coronavirus vaccine has proven effective, and, as of May 13, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control has updated its guidance for fully vaccinated people. Here, Marla Ahlgrimm shares a few of these updates.

According to Marla Ahlgrimm, the CDC has now stated that vaccinated individuals don’t need to wear a mask, even indoors. The only exception to this is in areas where local law mandates mask wearing. The retired pharmacist explains that mask wearing guidelines may remain in effect in some areas in times of viral surge.

Another major win for those taking any of the available vaccines is that they no longer have to self-quarantine before or after travel. Marla Ahlgrimm says there are exceptions to this as well, such as when the target destination requires so. Previous guidelines suggested a 14-day minimum isolation for those traveling into areas outside of their home state.

Marla Ahlgrimm explains that the CDC’s new guidelines are based on science that shows that fully vaccinated individuals pose very minimal risk to others and are at a low risk of contracting the virus themselves.

So, what about unvaccinated people? Marla Ahlgrimm says that these individuals should continue to follow standard COVID protocols of mask wearing and social distancing. This is a tricky situation to follow, however, as many businesses won’t – and in Florida they cannot – ask for proof of vaccination. While people who have been vaccinated are likely safe, Marla Ahlgrimm says that the possibility of another major outbreak still exists if the unvaccinated people don’t play it safe.

Ultimately, Marla Ahlgrimm hopes that more and more people will continue to get vaccinated. As the vaccine numbers continue to rise, she believes that COVID cases will continue to fall. And, hopefully, this will lead us to a return to normalcy, which is what everyone needs as we enter summer.
